The Heart of Our Work

Advocate. Empower. Lead.

Our mission is to empower and support survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking in suburban and unincorporated communities in Shelby County, Tennessee. We do this by showing them the love of God as we equip them with resources and tools to achieve stability in every area of their lives.

Our vision is for trauma informed communities where members courageously collaborate on ways to actively create safe places where women and children can thrive in every aspect of their lives without the fear of harm.

Our beliefs are rooted in the Gospel. We believe in compassion without compromise; ethical behavior in all our relationships; fearless advocacy for the voiceless; good stewardship over what God has entrusted to us; love for God, ourselves, and others; inclusiveness; and time for fun, rest and stillness.

We believe in living out components of the Sanctuary Model, which emphasizes creating safe spaces for our clients, engaging with them in a way that is emotionally intelligent, making room to grieve loss, and looking forward with hope to the future. We believe in the power of God to transform families and individuals through the Gospel.

Our History

The story of The Women’s Advocacy Center began in August 2018, when attorney R. Romona Jackson followed God’s call to step out in faith and leave her legal career. In March 2019, three friends—Pam Adams, Daynette Blackwell, and Kathy Howard Yoakum—joined her to launch a ministry committed to serving survivors of domestic abuse with a holistic focus on body, mind, and spirit. Together, they raised awareness, empowered women, and walked through hard days with unwavering faith, witnessing remarkable transformation along the way.

Guided by Matthew 19:26, which reads, “All things are possible with God,” Romona, Pam, Daynette, and Kathy helped women believe in what was possible for their lives—and in the process, gave deeply of themselves to this work. It remains our privilege to continue this mission as we empower and support survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking throughout suburban and unincorporated Shelby County, TN.
